My name is Roger Hamlett and I am a history major. I am trying to get my degree so I can teach history in high schools. I had a lot of great, amazing teachers in high school, and I thought to myself that if I could do what they did, I would be able to enjoy it. I like to think of myself as hardworking, but if I was to become a high school teacher, the work would not really even seem like work to me. I would enjoy doing it a lot, and I feel like if I was able to inspire kids to pursue history, or even pursue a different area of study, I would have done my job. Teaching should be inspiring, intriguing. It shouldn’t be memorizing dates or names, it should be connecting with the subject and learning how and why things occured the way they did. In my personal time I love to play video games, as I think they are a great way to keep the mind active but it also is a way to soothe the soul and just to relax and play some games. I also play guitar, which I believe can help open up creativity in the mind and allow the creativity to flow over into other subjects you are doing. Something that really intrests me would be the history of music. I feel like that would make a fun class to teach.
